I try to use slide for moving an edge no succes.
I try to use ADD an edge ring no succes.

For which purpose do we use them ?

the edge slide is not working yet, sorry.
To add an edge loop, it is very simple, just select one of the deg to be cut, then select an edge ring (R or with pop up menu), then use the cut and connect tool...
