hello,
what do you want to do?
With a closed 2D curve, you can create a face, or a torus like shape.
with a 2d opened curve, you can create a lath mesh.
with a 2d closed and a 3D curve, you can create a tube or a sweep...
But if you have any other ideas...

To be able to start with a mesh and if i need more patch be able to add it where i want specialy use with an image reference.
Also be ablle to start with a 3d curve add all vertex need by the system
create a mesh and be able to adjust all the vertex in function of the need
let say i want to make a human face.
I can start by building a 3d curve and more 3d curve in inside and so on
adding al the tranversal to joint all the point and adjust the net in function of the image ref.
Something like that

Ok, I see... there is nothing like this... but it can be done...
let me think a little about it... A tool in the edge toolbox that will extrude selected edges to a 3D curve... or just grouping 3D curves and a dedicated tool...
any idea is welcome on how to create an efficient tool with this is welcome...

i will think about it
Patrik
I thaught ( anyway i try ).
this is one is to caught a point on a mesh and construc line by line an another
patch to add to the mesh.
.
your idea to extend a mesh is also a very good.
And also be able to make holes into a mesh.
That all for the moment ( i need to think a bit more)
